About Us

The Cell for Awareness and Research in Environmental law Studies (CARES) was established on December 10, 2007, under the aegis of the Centre for Environment and Natural Resources Law at the National Law Institute University. The Cell strives to foster community participation and research in the sphere of environmental law. It tries to educate the students of the University on matters of public and environmental importance, that are not highlighted by the mainstream media.

CARES is one of the most nascent Cells at the University and has been active in spreading awareness on various environmental issues, in its small span of existence. The Cell was established with the objective of promoting and fostering the growth of Environmental Law studies. It has taken up the task of sensitizing the masses so as to make them aware of their role towards their environment as a part of the Fundamental Duty under Article 51-A (g) of the Constitution of India and instilling in them the spirit of environmentalism.

The Cell actively involves the student fraternity in keeping the college campus green and healthy which largely involves plantation and cleanliness drive, e-waste management and disposal. Among other activities, CARES has conducted climate change workshops, mock green Parliament, National Environment Awareness Programme and inter college summit. It encourages students to excel in Environmental Law by means of publications, seminars, paper presentations, debates, workshops, group discussions and other allied activities.

CARES mainly aims to create and maintain a database of environment related issues, spread awareness through dissemination of knowledge and collaborate with various national and international organizations. Over the years, CARES has dedicatedly contributed to creating awareness about ongoing environ-legal issues through seminars and street plays whilst also collaborating with governmental bodies like WWF, PCB, and NGT.
